Wreck Bay Explorer (South Jervis Bay area)
Wreck Bay Explorer (South Jervis Bay area)
Sunday 4th December 2016
Grade 2-3
Distance approximately 12Km
This trip is especially suitable for club members who would like to experience some of the fabulous south coast in a location fairly sheltered from NE winds. The area has many bays and beaches to explore so paddling long distance is not the agenda. There are several Holiday Parks in Huskisson. I will be staying at the White Sands Holiday Park 1300 733 028 (limited vacancies, 12 month rain check policy). Huskisson Beach is another possible park 1300 733 027.
I will email registrants on Thursday evening confirming the trip which will be dependent on suitable weather and sea conditions.
Email Mark at mjalchin1(at)bigpond.com if you have any questions.

The NSW Islands Challenge - A Midweek Sydney Harbour Island Explorer
Grade 1-2
Mid-week 29-30 March 2017
A cruisy trip with an historical theme circumnavigating the islands of Sydney Harbour and camping overnight on Cockatoo Island. We’ll be passing by (or under) some of the harbour’s iconic sites and checking out some of the historic craft in a few of the bays along the way. Day One distance is approximately 17km. Day Two approx. 15km (including a 6.5km pre-breakfast paddle option from Cockatoo Island to Rodd Island and back). One or two shore breaks on harbor beaches each day plus generous “exploration” time on Cockatoo Island.
Accommodation options on Cockatoo Island include BYO tent and gear or “glamping” in on-site tents with stretcher beds with mattresses (see http://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/stay for options).
Put-in and pull-out will be Little Sirius Cove, Mosman (where there is free on-street parking, toilets and tap for boat washing). Kayaks to Grade 2 minimum, please.
Register your interest on the Club’s online system. Numbers limited.
If you have any queries please contact Adrian Clayton - gclayton(at)bigpond.com.
Mid-week Circumnavigation of Five Islands
From Wollongong Harbour (Belmore Basin, not Port Kembla) boat ramp, we will aim to circumnavigate the Five Islands off Wollongong - or as many as possible at least. On the right day this trip can deliver seals, bumpy water, and surfing between Big Island and Red Point.
Date: Wednesday 30 Nov
Meet for 9am, start at boat ramp in the harbour.
Grade 2 and above.
Pittwater Paddle
Magnificent Montague Island
Name: Magnificent Montague Island – 10 & 11 Dec 2016.
Grade: Grade 2 or 3 only.
When: Be ready to hit the water at 08:30 sharp, Sat and Sun Morning.
Where: Montague Island is about 10km SE of Narooma on the South Coast. Ask any seal, they all seem to know where this island is.
The Plan: The Club has instigated a challenge to circumnavigate 10 NSW Islands in one year. To get the ball rolling I intend to run a trip to Montague Island. See NSW Island Challenge for other upcoming challenge events.
I have allowed two days for the trip so we have more opportunities for a weather window. On the “off day” we can conduct a local trip or go to the island twice. If you only come for one of the days you have less chance of making it to the island.
We would launch from Mystery Bay (36°18'14.7"S 150°08'12.6"E - Cut and Paste into Google Maps) and go out and back, clockwise around the island.
Overnight Accommodation: I will be camping at the Mystery Bay Council Camp Ground (36°18'02.2"S 150°07'53.9"E) a very short drive to the launch site. I intend to get there on the Fri afternoon. Mystery Bay is about 5 Hours from Sydney and 3 a half hours from Canberra.
Distance: It is a 26 km trip, with no opportunities for stopping on land (you are not allowed to land on the island). We may be able to stop briefly in the shallows for a stretch if conditions allow.
Finish Time: Before 16:00 each day.
I will only be taking 4 members per day but I have opened the registration to 10. Please be aware that by registering you are only registering your interest and are not guaranteed a position on the trip. I will finalise closer to the date. Feel free to email me (Josh Andrews) (fjandrews(at)outlook.com) if you have any questions.
Box Head Tour and Training
November 27, 8am for 0830 launch, return 3pm, 20-24km
Location: Umina area
Grade 2 considering sea skills, grade 3 refresher
The day will combine a paddle to Maitland Bay with skills training in boat control, rescues and rolling tune up. Launchpoint, destination and plans may change with conditions and will be confirmed by email to participants. Bring lunch, snacks, water and kayaks to grade 3.
If the trip is full and you would like to be on a waiting list or if you have questions about the day contact Campbell (see FAQ on website on how to contact a member here)
Your instructors will be Campbell Tiley and Rae Duffy
Camping Myall Lakes - Violet Hill
Terrific Tomakin
Terrific Tomakin – 12 & 13 Nov 2016.
Grade: Preferably 2’s and rusty Grade 3s, but any skill grade is welcome.
When: Be ready to hit the water at 09:00 sharp, Saturday 12 November.
Where: Tomakin is just south of Batemans Bay, about 4 hours south of Sydney, about 2 hours east of Canberra. I will be based at Tomago Tourist Park. We will paddle somewhere between Batemans Bay and Tomakin TBA – depends on the weather. Options include, Tomaga River mouth for surf practice, Tomaga River to Guerilla Bay to look at the seals and out to the Tollgate Islands.
The Plan: I intend to run a training and/or guided activity. You can come for either of the days or just one of the days. I will tailor the activity to the participants (and the weather), depends if you want to do training or just explore this great bit of NSW. If we meet at the camp site or the nearby Social Club on Friday night we will work it out then.
Overnight Accommodation: I recommend Tomago Tourist Park 55 Sunpatch Pde, Tomakin 02 4471 7235. I will use an unpowered site, happy to share if required. This Caravan Park has access to lagoon (20m portage!), that is connected to Tomago River, so it is about a 2km paddle from theCaravan Park to the open ocean.
Distance: No more than 20 km per day.
Finish Time: Before 16:00 each day, earlier on Sunday if you need to get away.
Gear: bring Lunch, Helmet and all your normal safety gear. Be prepared for mild surf and rocks.
Before the day: Check the weather and have a look at Google maps. Think about any training or skills you want to develop.
I will only be taking 4 members per day but I have opened the registration to 10. Please be aware that by registering you are only registering your interest and are not guaranteed a position on the trip. I will finalise closer to the date. Feel free to email Josh Andrews (fjandrews(at)outlook.com) if you have any questions.
