Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson visit Sydney – April 2012

In conjunction with a number of other Australian sea kayak clubs, and organised by Geoff Murray in Tasmania, NSWSKC continues its tradition of hosting overseas kayaking enthusiasts.  This year we will be visited by Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson of Kayakways in Maine, USA.

Cheri and Turner will be in Sydney from 16 to 27 April. Rob Mercer of Expedition Kayaks will be working with the club to organise on-water sessions. There will be a club day on Sunday 22 April, and there may be a few days for local paddlers to show our waters to the visitors.Keep an eye on EK’s blog and the club calendar for further details and updates.

In the last seven years, Cheri and Turner have travelled far and wide, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Ontario, and British Columbia, sharing what they know with other paddlers of widely differing backgrounds, and growing as mentors through these many experiences.

A paddler for 22 years, Cheri has taught Greenland-style kayaking for seven years at several US national kayaking symposia.

A skinny sticker for 13 years, and one of those rare paddlers outside of Greenland who began paddling with a traditional blade, Turner Wilson has taught Greenland-style kayaking for 8 years.

Coming out in March or April 2012 will be ‘This Is The Roll’ DVD. In conjunction with adventure cinematographer, Justine Curgenven, Cheri and Turner have been on quite a trip, filming from the warm waters of Sicily, to the colder climes of Wales, Scotland and British Columbia, and finishing in North Carolina.
